Am I missing something in the 2008 events calender? Where is the Mr. and Miss Cedars contest listed? I see something that looks like a combination Cedars and Leather contest. Last year the Cedars contest was just that , a contest..however the leather thing was a joke...No one knew anything about any voting or procedure. It's my opinion that there should have been a panel of judges or at least audience participation to declare the winners.

That's certainly something I could ask Chris and Bevan about. it is probably there, but listed differently in the schedule.

I have been told that the Mr and Ms Cedars competition this year has been cancelled. Participation last year was at an all time low and they decided to cancel the event as a result.

Thats truely sad..there were many new people at cedars last season that knew nothing of the events. They went to them (the events) just to see how things were done. To cancel an event such as this is a shame. I know for a fact that there were people planning on competing for such a prestigous title this year, and they were going to do routines live and not lip sinked. sad sad sad

Well, it could come back, you never know. If there is enough support and demand for one, it could be brought back. At the same time, with so many other events now on the schedule, there is so much to take part in to cover for the loss of this event. You're right, there will be people that will miss this event, and want it back. And with enough support and demand, I'm sure it can return.

I can't give an opinion on those events, or any others. I've never been to one. hehe. That'll change this year though. Me and my trusty camera will be to all of them.

I feel compelled to answer here, and I know that this forum is for people to express their opinions, but I always find that when someone wants to express a negative opinion, it is always nice to give some positive feedback as well.

We decided this year to cancel the Mr./Ms. Cedars contest due to lack of interest from participants. For the last three years it was up to Les to ride around the park at the last moment begging and pleading for people to participate. And while some people did sign up, when the contest came they pulled out and as usual the same people came to the aid of the party. And that we thank them for.

When we did do the calendar for this year we had some new events to add and in that, we had to cancel some of the lesser participated events. However, if someone would like to take the reigns and plan, promote, host, get talent, posters, and put the show on, then we can again look at the calendar and see where we can fit it in.

On the Leather and Cowboy nights, although this may not be everyone's cup of tea, both events were well attended and enjoyed and the feedback that we got was all positive until now. I understand that we are a diverse community, and enjoying each others differences is what attracts me to Cedars, this is also what I say when I get the complaint that there is to much drag in the park.

In closing, I want to point out that all of the events are put on, decorated, promoted and pumped up by volunteers. We do not have a paid Party Planner, and those of us that do do what we do also would like to have some time off to enjoy our friends and our sites without rushing out to put on the show every week.

So I say to everyone, get involved, it will make your summer much more enjoyable.

Jerry

That it does. I've not had the pleasure to enjoy a summer up there yet, but from the friendships I've already made, I really do feel like part of the family. I can't wait for this season to start and I can make even more friends, and meet face to face with the ones I've already made.

I think we can all agree that the Mr and Miss Cedars contest was one that was very popular at one point. Heck, in going back to all the pictures that are on the website, I can see that it was a very major event that almost resembled a big awards night like the Oscars or something. To me it is quite impressive to see the level of dedication people at the park have for these events and I'd love to see more of that.

Unfortunately, the Mr and Miss Cedars contest encountered some difficulties in recent years in gaining the popularity it had enjoyed in the past. And yet everyone here agrees that it is an event that is worth having at the Park.

So the question now becomes. What can we do to bring this event back?
